Responsive Design - Overview & Examples

February 21, 2012

Overview:

Responsive design refers to a design and development technique that allows your website to react to the resolution of monitor it is being viewed on. For large monitors this will allow site content to spread out and perhaps assume a several columns layout as seen in the Boston Globe site. In that same example, when the site is shrunk down to the size of a iPhone screen, you can witness the content arrange change to a simplified single column layout with a drastically reduced navigation menu. This enables your site to optimize the user experience across multiple devices, without having to deploy and potentially manage content for mobile specific site. Check out the examples below, open them up then change your window size to see the sites change their layouts and content arrangements.
